What is Laser Gum Treatment?

If you’ve ever suffered from gum disease or had difficulty getting control over chronic gingivitis, you may want to consider asking about laser gum treatments.

Laser treatments use soft tissue diode light technology to treat infected gum tissues and kill harmful bacteria. Yes, the laser can destroy the toxins inside of plaque biofilm without harming the healthy tissue around it! When combined with treatments such as periodontal scaling and root planing, laser gum treatments are part of a comprehensive approach to combatting advanced gum disease. In fact, that’s the only reason why we use them.

After a laser gum treatment, the healthy tissues can reattach to the tooth more easily, preventing additional bone and gum loss (and thus saving your teeth.) Not only that, but no more harmful tissues are present, so it’s easier to maintain the integrity of your overall smile.

Do Lasers Hurt?

The dental lasers that our Sherman Oaks dentist uses for gum therapy are minimally invasive. This means less discomfort and bleeding, with little to no recovery time necessary.

When we plan to use a dental laser during your deep cleaning, Dr. Nourian will usually recommend numbing the area to avoid any unwanted sensitivity, just out of precaution. Any mild soreness is usually due to the injection site from when we place the local anesthesia.
